When you purchase a solar home installation with battery backup, one of the components you will need to select is a solar Charge Controller. What is this object and why is it necessary?

Solar panels produce direct current, meaning the electricity from the panels flows in only one direction. They must do, as they cannot produce any other form of current. This current is passed to both the charge controller to top up the batteries and operate household items or to the inverter, to pump electricity into the grid if there is excess.

The quality of the charge controller will directly affect the life of the backup batteries. This is due to the particular chemistry involved in the depletion and recharging of the Lead Acid Accumulator batteries. When the battery is depleted of charge, the lead plates inside the battery are corroded. It is this corrosion that provides the electricity. When the battery is recharged, the plates are rebuilt, the opposite of the depleting reaction.

Sufficient charge delivered in the right volumes at the right time will allow the terminal plates inside the battery to be restored to as close to their previous condition as possible. This happens through growth of metal crystals on the surface of the plate. If this crystal growth does not happen at the best rate to generate large stable crystals, chunks of the metal will drop off the plate and build up at the base of the battery. This is the cause of the slow degeneration of car and other types of lead acid batteries.

Lead Acid Accumulator batteries are expensive and contain many of material and so have a high manufacturing energy. Selecting a good quality charge controller will maximize the life of these batteries in a solar home system. Buying a cheaper controller will result in shorter battery life and a greater long term cost as you will need to replace the batteries sooner than you should. Then, unless you want the same thing to happen, you will also need to replace the charge controller.

Purchasing a good quality charge controller will give you peace of mind and greater savings in the long term.

Solar attic fanned is a simple and cost effective solution for a well known problem that many homeowners are facing every day. Moisture and mold destroy slowly but effectively the house infrastructure. Solar attic fanned can fight this irritating problem.

You are well familiar with the fact that hot air is lighter then cold air and therefore goes up. During the day, the sun hit your walls and roof, this heat inside your house is aggregated and eventually is trapped in your attic which is the highest place in your house and this hot energy has nowhere to go.

That trapped heat in your attic is “great” condition to moisture and the development of mold. If you have an attic solar fan then it will “push” away all the trapped hot air and helps the humidity to spread away and will remove all those best conditions to any mold development.

Another reason and great advantage for using an attic solar fan is that you don’t have to deal with wires. This is a huge advantage, usually when we have a new electric machine then we have two options:
Wires inside the walls – meaning that we have to open a tunnel through the wall. No one likes the option Wires are seen and exposed on the walls – not elegant and absolute compromising way.
So, when you use the attic solar fan, you avoid this annoying problem with an elegant solution.

The solar attic fanned gets its power from the sun through solar panels on the roof which is a renewable source of energy and has zero usage costs unlike on grid electricity. It is important to make sure to use a solar attic fan that provides a constant equal pressure of air that will evacuate all vapor and heat from all those pockets that it was trapped in.

Solar power is a safe and popular alternative source of energy. In simple words, solar power refers to the energy generated from sunlight. There are different methods for harnessing solar energy for your day-today needs. In recent years, there has been increased interest and talk about the benefits of solar power. The increased interest in solar power largely due to three factors: one is our escalating energy bills, second is our depleting fossil fuel reserves, and finally the environmental impact of burning fossil fuels.

Solar power addresses the concerns quite well because it uses sunlight for generating energy, which is available free, and it is harmless to the environment. This is why many domestic and commercial establishments are switching to solar power to meet their energy requirements. Moreover, solar power is of great value for use in remote locations where you do not have conventional sources of power. Solar power is also widely used by owners of Recreational Vehicles (RV) and luxury boats.

Solar Power at your home
Solar power is being noticed for its widespread use at homes. Solar powered lights are quite common for garden lighting and some people are using it even for indoor lighting. Solar power is undoubtedly a viable energy source for your home because it has no recurring cost and a very low, almost negligible, maintenance cost.

Photovoltaic Tiles for Your Home
The big concern regarding the use of solar power is the bulky size of solar panels. However, this concern has largely been addressed with the development of small solar photovoltaic cells and the solar photovoltaic roof shingles. The solar photovoltaic roof shingles or tiles look quite similar to your normal roof shingles and provide you the freedom from large solar panels.

You can use photovoltaic tiles to supply electrical power for your home use. This electrical power could be used to heat water, and even heat your house. Some people also use solar power to heat the pool. The solar power generated by the PV shingles is just like the normal power you use for your everyday needs.

Solar Water Pumps
Solar power is being used to power water pumps in remote areas. Although windmills used to be the main source of power for the water pumps, recently the solar power has increasingly become the preferred source.

The government provides grants to people for purchase and installation of solar power devices such as solar energy panels and solar photovoltaic singles. Using solar power really gives you a double benefit as you are not only preventing environmental damage but also you are also cutting down your electricity bills. If you are not able to use solar power for your house on your own, you still have the option of buying the solar power from the grid.
